It will take place from 2-5 p.m. at Burlington Bowl, which will be transformed into a '70s time warp featuring cosmic bowling under the mirror ball, tunes from the '70s and a chance for people in the community to deck themselves out in their hippest '70s threads and win prizes. Hosted by K-Litefm's Sunni Genesco, the bowl-athon will involve 48 teams from the Halton community. Teams of four to six bowlers are invited to join in by collecting pledges and participating in '70s-themed costumes ­ or to come as they are. Besides the cosmic bowling, other events will include a Pop a Balloon Event in which participants will be able to purchase balloons filled with prizes; contests for teams and individuals based on bowling skills, pledges raised, best team costumes and more. The event will also feature food and a grand prize draw for which all bowlers will be automatically entered. The first of what's hoped to be an annual event is being sponsored by Exclusively Women's Fitness Centres with the support of The Oakville Beaver and Burlington Post as well as Fortinos, Burlington Bowl, JAN Kelley Communications and VIA Rail Canada. Exclusively Women's Fitness Centres of Oakville and Burlington are the event's title sponsor. Its parent company, Alliance Fitness Corporation, has been in business for over 26 years operating six Family Fitness co-ed and nine Exclusively Women's fitness clubs in southwestern Ontario. "We are proud to offer our support to this worthy cause," said Katherine Chamberlain, programming and events coordinator for Alliance Fitness, who noted the event is a perfect fit with the company that operates a women's-only Fitness Centre. Additionally, numerous other Halton companies and organizations are lane sponsors and prize donors. The new fundraiser marks SAVIS' 20th year in Halton and it invites the community to get involved by participating, sponsoring a lane, donating a prize or volunteering. Proceeds will fund SAVIS.
