www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday February 10, 2007 - 9 Stoneboats Restaurant returns from the ashes By Angela Blackburn OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF It should be smooth sailing again for Stoneboats Restaurant, which is open for business again at Bronte Harbour. After a major fire caused about $250,000 in damage at the heritage building that operates as a restaurant on Bronte Road at Marine Drive last March, its doors are open again -- just in time for Valentine's Day. It took the better part of $1 million and nearly a year, but the public was invited back in not long after 1 p.m. Thursday when the last building inspection took place. The bar that seats about 20 people hosted a handful of patrons, mostly local residents -- Thursday night. Though the building and property is owned by former long-time Bronte resident Dot Van Weiren, it's Bronte residents Molly and David Abraham, who have operated the restaurant for nearly 18 years. All parties were on board for the restoration of Stoneboats in the wake of the fire March 7, 2006. The "CLOSED" sign that has hung on BACK IN BUSINESS: Stoneboats is back in business after almost a year after a fire destroyed the building.
