The high velocity of the crash was clear from the damage to the vehicles. The front of the van was crumpled in like tissue paper while the right side of the Honda had also been caved in. One witness said that the van struck the car with such force that the van's rear wheels actually left the ground for an instant. Within minutes of the crash police, paramedics and fire personnel were on the scene helping the injured and working to stop the situation from getting any worse. While some firefighters worked to pry the victims free of their crushed vehicles others threw powder on the ground to soak up the leaking fluids. "The three occupants in the Honda were all injured, the air ambulance was called to transport one of the individuals, however it was cancelled before arrival and the three were taken to hospital by ambulance," said police spokesperson Sgt. Peter Payne. All three were taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital two with, what police described as significant but non life-threatening injuries and the third with minor injuries. One young man in the Honda was fitted with a respirator as firefighters removed him from the car, holding his head steady the whole time. After being removed from the car the man was placed on a stretcher and fitted with a neck brace before being removed from the scene in an ambulance. Firefighters also used blankets to bundle the victim against the day's intense cold and freezing winds. Police said the driver of the van received minor scratches and scrapes and was taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital but was discharged. The other occupants of the van were uninjured. Police rerouted traffic around the accident and began the process of piecing together what had happened photographing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Police said the collision is being investigated by the district traffic officer and charges are expected to be laid. OAKVILLE - Celebrating 150 years!
