10 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 10, 2007 Oakville teacher named Top Canadian role model Oakville's Gordon Phippen has been awarded the prestigious national To The Top Canada Award, which celebrates a Canadian role model who has helped make our country a better place. For the past three years, this award has been given to an unsung Canadian hero on To The Top Canada Day, a national campaign celebrated every year on Jan. 8 to encourage Canadians to make the country better with a personal project of their choice. Phippen received the award, which is mounted on a traditional Huron snowshoe, on the front steps of Parliament Hill on Monday. As the winner, he decided a $500 donation will be made to the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.
