The 16-year-old made the senior national cut in the 200-metre butterfly for the first time, placing seventh overall at the meet. He also posted personal-best times in the 200m individual medley, 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley. "When I saw the results, I was so happy," said Oakville Aquatics Club head coach Christy Fonseca. "Curtis is an incredible young athlete. His dedication and focus are exceptional and he is full of amazing spirit. It's great to see this breakthrough to a new competition level." Samuel is coming off a fine season with the Oakville Aquatic Club, including numerous podium performances at both the shortcourse and long-course junior provincial championships. He also earned a spot on the provincial team after a strong showing at the age group nationals, was identified by Swim Canada as a `Young Olympic Prospect' and received a nomination for Quest For Gold funding. The Oakville peewee red Lumberjacks won the championship at a recent hockey tournament in Orangeville. The Lumberjacks went undefeated at the competition, beating a trio of Newmarket teams, to earn their second tournament title of the season. Andrew Blake and Jordan Milner scored hat tricks in Oakville's opening game, a 10-1 victory. Evan Kwan, Bruce Stead, Blake Reith and Will Hudson contributed strong defensive play in the team's following contest, a 2-1 win. In the final, Tyler Molyneaux led the way with two goals and an assist as the Lumberjacks prevailed 5-1.
