Alex Corrance, a defenceman for the Mississauga Rebels Midget AAA team, died of an apparent heart attack during his team's first game of the 2006 Showcase Major Midget Prospect Tournament in Scarborough. At the request of his family, the results of an autopsy done Wednesday have not been made public, said Ontario's deputy chief coroner, Dr. Jim Cairns. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as the cause of death, Cairns said yesterday, adding the autopsy results might be made public "once the family has had time to grieve." Described as "a great hockey player, a very outgoing kid and an absolute delight to have around" by coach Victor Criscuolo, Corrance was killing a penalty early in the game against the Rebels' archrivals, The Mississauga Ice Dogs, when he suddenly collapsed. "I had just finished talking to him 30 seconds before he went on for his last shift. He was coherent. He wasn't breathing heavily. He looked at me, understood what I was saying," said Criscuolo. "Then he just collapsed on the ice." HENRY LACH / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER SNOW FUN: Denise, Mara and Evan Lach enjoy a toboggan slide down the snow-covered ramp neighbours built on the family's front yard on Christmas Day. The Kanas family built the ramp and delivered snow, so fouryear-old Evan could use the new toboggan he received for Christmas. Neighbours deliver white Christmas By Sabrina Byrnes OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF See Coach page 3 Dreams of a white Christmas came true for four-year-old Evan Lach and his family as they awoke Christmas morning to find the front lawn of their Owen Court home covered with snow. The white windfall was provided by the Lach's neighbours, the Kanas family, in response to young Evan's two Christmas wishes for a toboggan and snow. While Santa took care of the toboggan, the Kanas family delivered the snow. On Christmas morning, Evan and his eightyear-old sister Mara were greeted by a large snow-covered ramp on their front lawn -- perfect for tobogganing. "We had such a great surprise on Christmas, that was just really neat," chuckled the children's mother, Denise Lach. "We've been tobogganing when very few others have this winter." Evan's mother said Evan had told everybody he was asking Santa for a sled this Christmas, See Neighbours page 4 Buy Any Family Size 3 Topping Pizza and Receive a Medium Cheese Pizza for only $ Mamma's Pizza 2335 Trafalgar Rd., Oakville Just south of Dundas off of Postridge Purchase Any Party Size House Specialty Pizza 399 PICK-UP ONLY.
