With their Santa hats and Christmas decorations, volunteers from the Oakville Santa Claus Parade greeted people of all ages with information about the Parade on a hot July night. The Santa Claus Parade would like to say "thanks" to all the people who stopped by to say hello, wish them a Merry Christmas and get information about the Parade. The Santa Claus Parade display treated children to complimentary face painting, courtesy of two local teens, Denise Copping and Laura Stephenson. The two young ladies provided face painting to a long line of children all night long ­ in fact their work was so good that parents insisted on giving them tips. While many teens would have headed to the nearest store to purchase the newest fad, these two girls turned around and donated their $75 in tips to the Oakville Santa Claus Parade. Their donation will be used towards the rental of a costumed character who will walk in the Parade entertaining children. "We don't hear enough about the great things teenagers do in our community," said Pam Damoff, Chair of the Oakville Santa Claus Parade. "Denise and Laura can teach us all about community spirit, and I take my Santa hat off to them both." Now in its 58th year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in our Town. The 2006 parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. and will follow a new route.
