It is an ideal way to control weight. It strengthens the heart and lungs. It shapes and tones the muscles. It reduces stress and increases energy levels. If you are thinking about starting a walking program, there are a few guidelines you should follow so your activity will be both enjoyable and beneficial to your health. While certain aspects of aging are unavoidable, leading researchers are uncovering new evidence every day that many of what had been considered consequences of the natural aging process are really just the results of poor lifestyle habits. One of the most important areas influencing the strength, energy and flexibility associated with youthful health has to do with spinal health. As a person ages, muscles which maintain normal spinal alignment tend to lose their strength and tone. The vertebrae then become misaligned, which can affect spinal nerves leading to the major organs, joints, and tissues of the body. Serious problems such as arthritis, hypertension, constipation, and other digestive disorders may result from such nerve interference. Regular chiropractic adjustments help to ensure an uninterrupted nerve supply to keep every part of the body functioning at an optimal level for the longest possible time. It can make youthfulness a questlon of vibrant health rather than of one‘s physical age. ver the centuries, the quest to find the magical "Fountain of Youth" has been unending. Not only would we all like to look younger, but we‘d also like to feel younger. For most of us, feeling younger means having more energy, more flexibility, less aches and pains, and the ability to keep doing the physical and mental activities we enjoy. Plan on walking three to five times a Chiropractors take a holistic approach to health care PUD Trafalgar Toastmasters meets, 7:15 week. Exercising less than three times per week does not contribute much to cardiovascular fitness. Exercising more than five times per week produces no greater improvement and it also increases the risk of injury. You should walk for a minimum of 15 minutes each time, not including warmâ€"up and coolâ€"down. Each session should include a 5â€"10 minute warmâ€"up period in which you exercise the same muscles used during your walk. You should also allow a 5â€"10 minute coolâ€"down period of low The proverbial "Fountain of Youth" is not all fantasy. It exists in each one of us. It is the result of a "chiropractic lifestyle." By combining good nutrition, adequate rest and regular exercise with proper spinal care, we can all look younger, feel younger and actually BE younger. Donald Cassata, DC, PhD, chairman of the Senior Citizen Committee for the American Chiropractic Association and former President of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, says that while chiropractic can‘t deter aging itself, "it can deter the detrimental effects of aging." He states that "the goal of chiropractic is to enhance the quality of life, independent living, and optimal functioning ability." We‘re all aging, he says, but we can either age quickly and painfully or gracefully and functionally, depending on the lifestyle choices we make. Remember, you‘re only as old as you feel. Concentrate on healthy lifestyle habits, including regular visits to the chiropractor, and you could turn on your own "Fountain of Youth." s They understand that the spinal column is the "life line which connects every part of the body and allows it to function normally. When this life line malfunctions, it will not only affect the quality of your life, but the duration of your life as well. 9 South Peel Naturalists Club monthly meeting, 8 p.m., St. Bride‘s Church, Clarkson Road. Subject: intensity exercise. Of course you can walk longer than 15 minutes, but always make sure you are not overexerting yourself. The faster you walk, the shorter time you will need to walk to obtain the maximum benefit. You should begin any walking program at both low intensity and duration. Gradually increase the intensity and duration over a period of weeks. You may prefer to walk faster for a shorter period, or take a longer stroll for 30 to 60 minutes. Before starting any exercise program, you should talk to your chiropractor and discuss your goals and concerns. Mothers Morning Out, 9:15 to YOU HAve ANYTHING To §Y ?
