Putnam‘s Sons If you like cats and suspect them of being far more intelligent than most people give them credit for, then you will love Lilian Jackson Braun‘s series about Jim Qwilleran and his Siamese cat companions, Koko and Yum Yum. Qwilleran is a newspaper columnist in the remote Moose County who dabâ€" bles in solving mysteries with the help of Koko and Yum Yum. In this volume, Qwilleran and the cats visit a newlyâ€"built resort on Pear Island, not too far from his home town of Pickax. The resort has been heavily publicized and is drawing tourists from "down South" but has seen sevâ€" eral serious accidents â€" fires, stairs that suddenly collapse, etc. â€" that make Qwilleran suspect deliberate sabotage. He decides to investigate. If fou’re looking for lots of susâ€" pense, action, and puzzling mystery, uUun, GRACE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH Worship Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Sunday School and Bible Class 10:00 a.m. Pastor Douglas Priestap Howard Johnson Hotel 590 Argus Rd. Phannenhour this is not the book for you. Braun‘s stories, including this one, tend to move slowly, with more emphasis on humor, odd characters (and this book is full of them), and the adventures of Qwilleran and the cats. The mystery â€" while intriguing, and eventually solved â€" tends to be in the background throughout most of the book. Koko, of course, does his share of sleuthing â€" in this case, sending messages in code with domino tiles. (Only Qwilleran, of course, can figure them out.) But, if you‘re looking for a relaxâ€" ing and entertaining mystery story with a sense of humor and a couple of very likable cats, this would make great summer reading. 304 Spruce St. (By Hospital) 845â€"1563 10:00 a.m. Worship
