Educators have been quick off the mark to jump into this era of high tech for learning purposes and in some instances, it opens up a whole new world for today‘s students. â€"The River Oaks Public School in Oakville has been writtenâ€"up in journals and the school plays host to numerous tours put on for educators from around the world. While their notion of "Canadian culture" is markedly disâ€" tinct from the rest of the nation, they once, again, have opted for giving us what they think we need, rather than what we want. Currently, some Royal Canadian Legion branches will not allow reliâ€" gious headgear to be worn while in the buildâ€" ing. It‘s all wonderful stuff but we somehow feel sorry for these kids and those who follow who will never savor the different smells of books, old and new, sweet and musty. For there is one aspect of all this highâ€"tech learning that we think some people miss...it‘s called the sensory experience. The simple act of picking up a book, headâ€" ing to a quiet spot, be it the bathroom or a cozy couch, amd having a read that will let your imagination fly without the constant drone of the computer for distraction. o es i m 1 s Tt’;afilw‘r’{iéé'tl’muéht but the computer people have an answer...it‘s called the lapâ€" Law order circus ‘The reason Canada joined in the fight was to ensure the freedom of the world‘s citizens. ie scene of police cars trailing a truck driven by a friend of O.J. It is his belief that the fact they do not remove reliâ€" gious headgear is not disrespectful. After all, they were not asked to remove their turbans when they fought for democracy. Now we are trying to restrict these men of their rights. Trevor Reid If they really want to exacerbate stereotypical roles and simultaneâ€" ously discriminate based on demoâ€" graphics, why not broadcast a netâ€" work "geared for men"? Heaven forbid, THAT would be politically incorrect, now wouldn‘t it? These individuals brought a sense of peace and calm to an extremely frightening time for me. They all waited for a half hour after I was taken to hospital for the police to arrive to take their statements, as the driver of the vehicle left the scene after hitting me. The ambulance attendants reassured me all the way to OTMH. The emergency staff quickly did all necessary work to stabilize me. I will cherish it and you always. Dear Sir: Have you noticed how politicians cover up an important issue that they would rather we didn‘t pay much attention to, by diverting the media away to a less important one? Well, it‘s happening here in Oakville and, frankly, I think it stinks. The important issue is the Grand Boulevard Plaza â€" but all we hear about, especially in your column, are personal attacks on Bill Logan. The Grand Boulevard Plaza issue is far too important to be covâ€" ered up in this way. It‘s an eyesore, an attraction for criminal activiâ€" ty and vandalism, and an ongoing concern for parents who have children who play in the neighborhood. All our elected representatives should be actively and construcâ€" tively working together to find an acceptable solution to this probâ€" lem. Jim Smith and Kurt Franklin thought that they could play hardâ€" ball with the developer and pressure him into building an everâ€" decreasing number of townhouses on the site. Well, they couldn‘t. They blew it. He withdrew his application. Nothing has changed. The Plaza is still there. By now, diverting our attention away from the real issue, they are covering up their ineptitude and their failure to solve a problem that the rest of us have to live with.
