Once he found the flute, he simultaneously decidâ€" ed on a career in music. He wanted to study in Europe and did so at London‘s Trinity College of Music, graduating as a Fellow. Kershaw comes from a musical family and he grew up surrounded by the sounds of music â€" his father was not only a music teacher but a music director in the British Army while his brother played the French Horn and his mom "enjoyed listening to He doesn‘t remember why he chose the slender wooden instrument â€" "I just Joved the sound" â€" but more than two decades later, the native of London is still playing it and teaching it. us. â€" He taught in Montreal for a time before heading ‘west‘ to Ontario. Kershaw is content to have chosen the teaching route but still has his performing outlets such as with the professional pops concert band Windjammers, based in Kitchener. He is also using his teaching and conducting skills as the newlyâ€"appointed music director of the Oakville Concert Band, Canada‘s oldest community band. The job fell into his hands after a brief associâ€" ation with the ensemble as a master class instructor and cuest conductor. Kershaw‘s objectives are to "import new memâ€" bers" and maintain a level of enjoyment and fun while attaining a higher standard of musicianship.
