Joining them will be the Zone 13 champions, the Glendale Curling Club. The strong Glendale team includes Jane Augustyn, a former lead on a Canadian world championship women‘s team. There are some important baseball signings on the way as Oakville Little League holds a registration tomorrow (Saturday) with the Oakville Minor Baseball Association on tap next Saturday (Feb. 5). OAKVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE This Saturday‘s registration, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at White Oaks Secondary School, will allow newcomers a chance to sign up along with any returning players who missed out on the first registration. A second and final signâ€"up will be held at the same site on February 19, but league officials advise interested participants to enrol early as registraâ€" tions will be limited this season. "Last season we had 2,400 boys and girls participate in our programs and we just don‘t have the parks to accommodate the continuous growth we have experienced over the past five years," said incoming president Doug Culham. Oakville Minor Baseball Association programs are open to all Oakville youngsters born in 1975 through 1988. For more information, phone 815â€" 6622. Success for Oakville curlers An Oakville curling rink is getting right down to business in the Ontario Curling Association‘s business women‘s division. Only 500 openings remain in the 1200â€"member Oakville Little League after a recent registration, for returning players, filled up the first 700 spots. Interested players, aged 6 (as of Aug 1) to 18 years of age, are advised to register early to avoid waiting lists. Phone 842â€"5555, for more information. OAKVILLE MINOR BASEBALL ASSOCIATION The Oakville Minor Baseball Association will hold its first registration next Saturday (Feb. 5) at T.A. Blakelock Secondary School from 9 a.m. to 4 Worth their metal The local Provincial Junior "A" hockey team left Monday night‘s league meeting with their hands full, carting away no less than three major troâ€" phies, including top coach, top defenceman and most improved player. The most improved player went to captain Kent Williams who, in only his second year in the league, currently sits in fourth place in the scoring derby with 83 points (37 goals and 46 assists). Other league honors went to: Hamilton‘s Matt Turek as the league‘s most valuable player; Milton‘s Scott Bertoli for rookie of the year; and Milton‘s Mike Cox as the most sportsmanlike player. Oakville Blades close out the regular season next Friday against Royal York. They‘re also on the road tomorrow (Saturday) in Hamilton and Tuesday in Streetsville. Sign up for baseball Local residents should be aware, warned league official Bill Roberts, that the league could very well reach capacity with this Saturday‘s registration. The Oakville Blades will certainly be worth their metal when they take on the Georgetown Raiders tonight, 8 p.m., at Oakville Arena. Best defenceman honors went to Justin Ball who was banished to the blueline last year because the team "needed someone strong who could hit." A perennial "underrated player", Walker said Ball "plays a good solid game. He goes out there and does his job." Coach of the year went to Greg Ireland. "I can‘t think of a more deservâ€" ing coach," said Walker. "He literally turned the team around from 8th place to third (although they‘ve since slipped into fourth place)." He seemed to catch fire in last year‘s playoffs, and carried it right over to this year, said general manager Murray Walker. And if that were to happen, a third registration penciled in for February 12 would be called off. The Blades are right in Never let it be said that this edition of the Blades takes the easy way out! All season long they have had to battle for every point they have earned. Now, their recent mental lapses have contributed to an extremely tight race in determining the final playoff spots. The Blades have clutched victory from the jaws of defeat so many times this season so the upcoming week. should prove to be very. interesting to watch for Blade fans. Tonight, the Georgetown Raiders invade town. Then the Blades hit the road for touch games against Hamilton tomorrow night and against Streetsville ?Tuesday).
