Aug. 25, 1993 By ANGELA BLACKBURN Oakville Beaver Staff Fines for men caught in Shell Park sex case A 27â€"yearâ€"old Oakville man who court heard has been under psychiatric counselling since being charged, received the highest fine of $1,000 after pleading guilty to two counts of committing an indecent act (two instances of performing and receiving fellatio) in a public place and one count of engaging in anal intercourse. The lowest fine â€" $300 â€" went to a 53â€"yearâ€"old Burlington man who, court heard, wasn‘t involved in activiâ€" ties in the park‘s washroom but was found masturbating on a grassy area of the park by a police officer who‘d been walking by a baseball diamond. Most who pleaded guilty received $400 fines and 12 months probation containing only one condition â€" that they not frequent Shell Park. Nine of 45 men charged with sexuâ€" al offences in a nineâ€"day Halton police videotaped June 1993 stakeâ€"out of Shell Park‘s men‘s washroom pleaded guilty in Oakville Provincial Court Tuesday. Provincial court Judge William Sharpe meted out the sentences Tuesday on what was the first appearâ€" ance date set in connection to the charges. Court heard police, upon public complaints, spent several days moniâ€" toring the comings and goings at the washroom, noting licence plate numâ€" bers and descriptions before setting up a video camera above the toilets for a nineâ€"day period in June. Three of the 45 men charged manâ€" aged to arrange court appearances in other areas of Halton earlier than Tuesday. Halton Regional Police Sgt. Joe Martin said a 23â€"yearâ€"old Burlington man received a $200 fine in Burlington court from Sharpe.
