Acton/Georgetown, Friday, August 24, 2007 19 After a three-month stint on the disabled list, Shawn Hill of Georgetown has returned to the Washington Nationals and looked just as impressive in two recent starts as he did before his latest injury. The 26-year-old righthander threw six shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies last week before hitting his 80-pitch limit, striking out a career-high seven batters and allowing only a bloop single. The game was scoreless when Hill left and the Phillies went on to pull out a late 3-2 victory. This past Sunday, Hill had another quality start at home versus the firstplace New York Mets, lasting seven innings before again not getting a decision. The sinkerball specialist left with the score tied at two and the Mets touched up the relief help for six unanswered runs in the last two innings. Hill is 3-3 with a team-leading 2.41 earned run average for the vastly improved Nationals, who will move into a new stadium next season. His left shoulder was injured in April while running the bases and began to have a flare-up of soreness in his reconstructed throwing elbow, putting him on the disabled list May 11. But the former shortstop pronounced himself pain-free after his first start back-- save for some awkward-looking at-bats. Hill will face fellow Canadian starter Jeff Francis tonight (Friday) when the Nats visit the Colorado Rockies. If Washington's pitching rotation continues as is, it appears as though Hill will miss the opportunity to take on home-run king Barry Bonds when the San Francisco Giants visit RFK Stadium for a three-game series on the Labour Day weekend. Hill sharp North Halton pair second in return at Juvenile better-ball event Golf roundup North Halton Golf & Country Club junior members Tyler McNiven and Luke Ovenden combined to shoot a four-under-par round of 67 on Tuesday to tie for second place at the Golf Association of Ontario's Juvenile Boys' BetterBall Championships in Port Perry. The 16-year-olds finished just one shot behind the winning twosome of Brendan McKee and Daniel Kim from Toronto at the Oakridge Golf Club. ··· Georgetown's Samantha Spencer shot her best-ever competitive round to finish runner-up at the 36hole Canadian Junior Golf Association's Junior Linkster Tour Championship at the Annandale Golf & Country Club in Ajax this week. Spencer, 11, had a 98 in her opening round but came back with 10 pars on Wednesday to record an 81, finishing 14 shots back of the winner in the girls' 10-12 age group. Callum Biehn of Georgetown shot 89-87 to place third in the boys' 9-10 division at Annandale.
