Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, June 20, 2007 7 Celebrate Canada Day in the Glen We should all be so proud to be Canadian, living in the best country in the world, and what a better way to celebrate being Canadian than to have a full day at the traditional Glen Williams Canada Day celebrations. To top it off, follow it up with the fireworks display at Prospect Park in Acton, thanks in large part to the Acton Firefighters Association for operating this event. Donations are welcome to offset the costs of the fireworks. ··· The Acton and Georgetown BIA's are busy organizing upcoming events. Are you hungry? Downtown Acton will be hosting the Taste of Acton on Saturday, June 23, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. with sidewalk sales, carriage rides, and great food for all to enjoy. On July 27 and 28, Downtown Georgetown will be in full swing presenting the Festival on Main (formerly The Village Festival) in partnership with the Georgetown Homecoming 2007. Come and explore the new look of downtown Georgetown. Downtown Georgetown is looking great, and I have received several positive remarks. The Farmers' Market is now open every Saturday for another season. Support our local farmers. ··· Don't forget to mark your calendars to attend the Georgetown Homecoming 2007 event on July 27-29. The organizers have been very busy putting together a fantastic program. For information, please check out the website at www.georgetown2007.ca. Rick Bonnette ··· Starting July 1, the Mayor's Showcase will be displaying some works of art of the late Laura Dittrich that highlights scenes of the old Town of Acton. This artwork was kindly donated to the Town thanks to Lorne Doberthein. ··· Halton Hills, in partnership with Milton, Oakville, Burlington's Ron Edwards YMCA, and both Halton Boards of Education, is pleased to be launching the Swim to Survive Lifesaving Program. The program provides the opportunity for children to learn the absolute basics to survive near water. Swimming is an essential life skill, and all Canadian children need to learn to swim. With Halton Hills being a waterrich community, it is extremely important that children learn basic lifesaving skills. Approximately 240 Grade 4 students in Halton Hills will be participating in the program with the intent to expand in 2008. ··· Keeping it real!
