The Canadian Country Classic features equestrian show jumping, BMX racing, beach volleyball and other youth activities. It is held at Halton Place, August 22 to September 2. The contest has a minimal entry fee of $2 per student, all of which will go to Sick Kids Foundation, the Hospital for Sick Children's Research Institute. Entries from students Grades 3 to 5 will be judged on imagination. Entries from students in Grades 6 to 8 will be judged for creativity and imagination. First prize winner in each category will be an iPod. Second and third will receive a digital camera and a "Pay-one-Price" Canada's Wonderland Passport, respectively. Each participant will receive free grounds admission to the Canadian Country Classic for up to four family members. The names of the winners will be announced on Saturday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at the Poster Exhibit in the Canadian Country Classic Children's Village. Every class in the school participated in Young Authors by creating a display to show the best writing samples from poems and news articles to creative and imaginative fictional stories. Each class had a theme that was illustrated by excellent student writing. Many families joined us to celebrate the students' literacy achievements. Additionally, MSB held a Family Math Night in conjunction with the Young Author displays. Families participated in a wide variety of hands on math activities to explore a wide variety of math problem solving activities. The school, parent council and local churches also sponsored parenting expert Dick O'Brien to give parents tips on Raising Resilient Children. Mr. O'Brien encouraged parents to teach their children to make smart choices in life and learn from their experiences. His seminar offered ways to help parents get their children ready for life beyond school. MSB also held the official "kick off" for its Student Breakfast Program yesterday. The breakfast program will operate every Tuesday and Thursday at the school for students for a five-week pilot. School officials hope to have the Student Breakfast Program run year round next year.
