Local group seeks interest in allotment gardening The Georgetown Horticultural Society is trying to determine if there is enough local interest in allotment gardening and will hold a public meeting to gauge that interest. The Society would like to work with the Town of Halton Hills in securing land and making other arrangements to allow for allotment gardening in which gardeners essentially "rent" a garden. The Society would determine the soil quality, water availability and set the rent and guidelines for allotment holders. A minimum number of participants has been established and the Society would like the project to become reality in time for the 2008 growing season. An informal meeting to determine the amount of interest in allotment gardening is set for Wednesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church (60 Guelph St.) Those unable to attend the meeting, may leave an e-mail message at georgetown@gardenontario.org or phone 905-877-1533 before Wednesday, April 18.
