High school roundup Rebel swimmers dominate Play Ball! Register now for the 2007 House League Baseball season. SAT. FEBRUARY 24TH The Georgetown District High School swimming machine churned up several medal finishes and meet records at last week's Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) championships as the Rebels claimed their eighth consecutive overall team title among 24 high schools represented at Brock University in St. Catharines. Several Christ the King Jaguars and Georgetown athletes qualified as individuals or on a relay team for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championship meet, to be hosted by the Rebels at the Etobicoke Olympium March 6-7, thanks to their performances at GHAC. The Jaguars placed an impressive third overall in the team standings and both local schools qualified many teams for the various relay distances and strokes. GDHS will send 15 individuals and eight relay teams to the provincial championships. The Rebels raced to six meet records at Brock, including two by the senior boys' relay squad. James Bramley, Brett Reynolds, Ricky Davids and Gareth Viray-Cox teamed up for a GHAC-best time of 2:03.16 and top spot in the 200m medley relay. Kris Niemieir was subbed in for Reynolds as the foursome won the senior boys' 200m freestyle and bettered the previous meet record in the preliminaries. Georgetown's junior girls' 200m medley relay team, consisting of Rebekka Bond, Jen Ormiston, Laura Evans and Deneka Bodrug, was also golden at GHAC and made the record book for their preliminary race time. Other Rebel record-breakers at Brock were Bramley (senior boys' 50m freestyle, 26.44 seconds), Ormiston (junior girls' 50m breaststroke, 39:08) and Justin Bravo (junior boys' 50m breaststroke, 35.0). Christ the King's Kim Galvin was also in excellent form, breaking a GHAC-best time that has stood for 27 years, finishing the senior girls' 200m free in first at 2:27.52. Galvin also finished second in the 100m individual medley as she and Georgetown's Jessica Stuart, who won that race, will likely duel for medals at OFSAA. Stuart also placed first at Brock in the senior girls' 50m butterfly and her brother Rob visited the podium twice to pick up golds for the junior boys' 100m and senior 200m freestyle events. Julie Silas also figures to be in the medals at provincials after a GHAC gold in senior girls' 100m freestyle and silver in the 50m butterfly. Other medallists for GDHS at GHAC for the Rebels included Davids (gold in senior boys' 100m IM, 50m butterfly), Bramley (gold in senior boys' 50m free, 100m backstroke), Ormiston (gold in junior girls' 50m breaststroke, bronze in 50m free), Kyle Hansen (gold in junior boys' 50m free, silver in 50m butterfly), Viray-Cox (bronze in senior boys' 50m free), Charlie Wright (bronze in open girls' 100m butterfly), Kyle Creswicke (silver in junior boys' 50m breaststroke, bronze in junior boys' 50m butterfly), Niemieir (bronze in senior boys' 50m butterfly), Gresham Kimm (bronze in open boys' 200m IM), Chris Bellman (silver in junior boys' 100m free, bronze in 100m IM), Bond (bronze in junior girls' 50m backstroke), Melissa Ott (silver in senior girls' 100m backstroke), Romana Matthews (bronze in senior girls' 100m breaststroke) and Tyler Jackson (bronze in senior boys' 100m breaststroke).
