In the junior girls' North Division, Christ the King's Jaguars completed their regular season at 8-2 after outlasting the host Acton Bearcats in three sets (25-17, 16-25, 15-8) on Wednesday. Strong serving by Vanna Kazazian and the setting of Becky Hunt propelled the Jags, who placed second behind the unbeaten Georgetown Rebels. Basketball GDHS's senior boys recorded their third tourney win of the 2006-07 season after beating Assumption of Burlington 65-61 in overtime in the final of the 16-team Referees' Memorial event in Hamilton last weekend. Dalton Olinoski was named tournament MVP for his 24-point effort against Assumption. Spencer Troop added 16 points and Brett Neumann was named to the all-star team. In the preliminary round, the Rebels bounced Sir Winston Churchill of Thunder Bay 42-27, London Banting 56-42 and Saltfleet of Stoney Creek 59-45. In league action on Wednesday, the senior Rebels clinched first place in the North Division and finished the campaign at 10-0 by routing Bishop Reding in Milton 71-48. Olinoski struck for 29 points and Neumann added 17. This weekend, the senior Rebels will play in the Forest City Shootout in London. Acton's seniors received 17 points and 13 rebounds from centre Adam Grove in a 35-31 triumph over the guest CtK Jaguars on Wednesday. Ryan Sheppard led the 4-6 Jags with 13 points, while the Bearcats finished up at 6-4. On the junior side, 8-0 Christ the King will play its first-ever home playoff game on Wednesday against a yet-to-be determined opponent starting at 3:30 p.m. · More high school sports page S/L 6. McDermot is the lead on Epping's rink, which will be playing in the TSC Stores Tankard Ontario Men's Curling Championship in Sarnia beginning Monday. The winner of the six-day event earns a berth in the Brier March 3-11 in the Steel City. After failing to qualify though zone playdowns, the rink won Tankard Challenge Round East tournament by posting a 6-1 record, including five straight wins to close the event. McDermot, Epping, third Nick Rizzo of Brantford and second Scott Foster of Burlington will face stiff competition in the Tankard as veterans Glenn Howard and Wayne Middaugh will also be vying for the elusive Brier berth. Next week's action from the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre will be broadcast on TVCOGECO channel 14. The Epping rink's first game is on Monday at 1 p.m. against Wayne Warren of Cannington.
