Young runner captures bronze medal Eight-year-old Mackenzie Cameron of Georgetown earned a bronze medal at the recent Ontario Minor Track Association cross-country running championships at Lasalle Park in Burlington. Cameron, a Grade 3 student at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic School and member of the Bramalea Bullets Track Club, placed third in the 1-km mite division race in a time of five minutes and 10 seconds. Twenty clubs and 230 skaters from as far away as Rochester, N.Y. took part in the races staged by the Brampton Speedskating Club at Century Gardens. Twelve-year-old Philip Geng earned a gold medal in the Midget division with race times of 45.3 and 43.17 seconds in the 333-metre event, along with 1:04.62 and 1:04.65 over 500 metres. Charlotte Geng, 9, skated to a bronze medal in the Cradle category in the 55 metres and 110 metres, while five-year-old sister Lydia placed 10th in the Bantam division with times of 1:00.96 and 59.83 for 333 metres, combined with 39.55 and 40.37 over 222 metres. The Halton Hills contingent of the Milton club, which trains out of the John Tonelli Arena on Wednesday nights, has picked up a few new members over the past months.
