4 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, May 24, 2006 Suspicious man sought after girls approached GREAT JOB EVERYBODY! Halton Police are investigating a report of a suspicious man who approached two girls as they were walking to St. Francis of Assisi School Friday morning. Police say the girls were approached by a man they didn't know at approximately 8:45 a.m. near St. Andrew's Church. The man offered to carry their bags, the girls politely declined and continued toward the school. The man walked quickly and approached the girls a second time and persisted to ask if he could carry their bags. The girls became nervous and immediately left and reported the incident to a teacher on duty when they arrived at the school. It was reported the man loitered in the area of the school for several minutes after his exchange with the girls. Police checked the area, but couldn't find the man. He is described as white, approximately 50 to 60 years old, 5'6" to 5'10", slim build with grey hair with white patches. He was wearing a blue-grey coat, green shirt, navy pants and white shoes. Witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident are asked to call police at 905-878-5511 ext. 2105 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. The second annual Halton Hills 20 Minute Makeover was held on Friday, April 21st, and it was a great success. The Town of Halton Hills would like to thank all of the businesses that participated and especially thank all of the employees who took 20 minutes out of their day to clean up the industrial and commercial areas of our community. Young's Pharmacy & Home Services Charges laid in home invasions A man is facing several charges in connection with two home invasions in Georgetown last weekend. Halton Police report both incidents occurred at the same home on John St. In the first incident a man armed with a claw hammer forced his way into the home and threatened the male resident while preventing him from leaving. He then left the home. A short time later the man returned to the home, again forcing his way inside and destroyed several pieces of property in the apartment before leaving. Police say the incidents were not random acts as the victim and suspect were acquaintances. As a result of the police investigation a man attended the Georgetown police station Tuesday and was arrested. Charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of forcible confinement and mischief to private property is Kyle James Fendley, 22, of no fixed address, formerly of Georgetown. The Town would also like to recognize the seventeen schools that participated in clean up activities. Each school will be presented with a certificate of appreciation for their contribution to keeping our environment clean and safe. Lend Me Your Ears IS IT TIME FOR A HEARING AID? If you feel as it you are missing out - on conversations, movies, plays or public meetings - or if your loved ones are getting tires of constantly repeating themselves, it's time to get your hearing tested. And if your vanity has you balking at the idea of wearing a hearing aid, you should know that they're smaller and better than ever, thanks to technological developments such as digitization and background noise filtering. More importantly, while hearings aids are still considered a "device" they have significantly improved the quality of life for many users. Not only do more than 50 per cent of senior citizens need at least one hearing aid, so do many other Canadians. These include younger adults exposed to longterm damaging noise, children who are "higher risk" at birth and people of all ages whose hearing is affected by injury or disease, such as meningitis. The Town of Halton Hills would like to thank Tim Hortons for sponsoring this very worthwhile community event. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the future as we strive to make Halton Hills a proud and litter-free community. A special thanks to Town Councillors for promoting this event, especially in the rural areas, and to Councillor J. Fogal and the Litter Free Task Force for their invaluable assistance in coordinating this event. Their pride in the community of Halton Hills is greatly appreciated. 1 Halton Hills Dr., Halton Hills, ON L7G 5G2 Tel.: 905-873-2600 · Fax: 905-873-2347 The Georgetown We care about your hearing!
