Bad second quarter sinks Rebels in final disastrous second quarter sealed the fate of the Georgetown Rebels in the Halton Secondary Schools Athletic Association AAAA senior boys' basketball final on Wednesday night, as Burlington's Notre Dame Fighting Irish chalked up a 5331 victory. The Rebels led 8-4 after the first quarter and were able to handle an aggressive and more experienced Notre Dame side under the basket, but Georgetown's game plan began to unravel after that, with the Irish outscoring their opposition 21-2 to take a 25-10 halftime advantage. "We're a little young and sometimes it looked that way tonight, and (Notre Dame) is a good team," said Rebels' coach Steve Pettit. "It's all relative. We still won 29 games this year, did some nice things on the court and got a lot of travelling done. Hopefully, our guys were taught some good lessons and had fun doing it." Kevin Chambers led Notre Dame with five threepointers and 21 total points. Dalton Olinoski and Spencer Troop were the top GDHS scorers with 10 points apiece. On the bright side, just one starter from this year's edition of the senior Rebels, Corey Carlton, won't be back next season, and some talented juniors will be vying for roster spots as well. Brake, a Grade 12 student, plays the libero position for the Bearcats' powerhouse senior girls' volleyball team that has advanced to this GHAC final against Hamilton's Bishop Ryan. Andrews, who's headed to Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas on a track scholarship, had a goal and two assists in a game for Acton's girls' varsity hockey team at a recent tournament at York University in which the Bearcats went 3-1. Georgetown District High School athletes of the week are Spencer Troop and Dave Walkington. Troop, a Grade 11, 6-foot-4 power forward, scored the winning basket in the Halton hoops semi-finals against Burlington's Assumption last week, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the game. Walkington, a Grade 12 student, led the Rebels' boys' hockey team with four points in a 6-4 victory over Burlington's Assumption. Christ the King High School athletes of the week are Samantha Sala and Ryan Sheperd. Bala is an offside hitter on the Jaguars' senior girls' volleyball team, which was a B division finalist at the provincial all-Catholic volleyball tournament held in Oakville recently. Sheperd is a guard on CTK's junior boys basketball team. His hustle and leadership led the Jaguars to a first-round playoff victory over Oakville Trafalgar.
