He held an open house in his workshop on December 10th to showcase these new designs to his current and past clients, as well as any serious prospective buyers. The first piece is a privately commissioned dining table made out of solid Peruvian mahogany with a massive one-piece slab top measuring 48" wide by 102" long and a full 1 5/8" thick. The table top alone weighs in at almost 160 pounds, with nearly another 100 pounds for the base. The second design is a black cherry dining chair with tapered front legs and decorative fluting. The arm chair version is still on the drafting table, but Varju hopes to complete the prototype in 2006.
