Veltman nets two in Sting victory Continued from pg. 1 "Our strategy is to keep running on the other team and push the ball up the floor as much as possible," said Veltman, who had 16 goals and 16 assists in 24 games with the Sting last year. "As a defensive player, it's hard for me to set goals for offensive totals because my first obligation is to stop the other team from scoring. It is nice to know that I do have the green light to jump up into the play if the opportunity is there." The Sting finished 8-6 last year and was a heavy underdog in the 2005 championship against Toronto, but after making some acquisitions during the off-season, a rematch with the Rock and Veltman's uncle Jim in the spring is a strong possibility. "That's the way it usually is. Everyone knows you'll probably have to go through Toronto to win it all and we'd love another shot at it," Veltman continued. "Most of our players are from this area and everyone's always excited to play in Toronto in front of 18,000 fans." --By Eamonn Maher, staff writer Women's pro league game set for tonight ome of their star players are away in preparation next month's Winter Olympics in Italy, but members of the National Women's Hockey League's Brampton Thunder and Oakville Ice plan to put on a good show for about 1,000 spectators at MoldMasters SportsPlex tonight (Friday) starting at 7:30 p.m. It's the fourth year in a row that the NWHL has staged a game in Georgetown as a fundraiser for the North Halton Twisters' Girls' Hockey Association. Even though it is a neutral-site contest, it will count in the regular season standings, with Oakville and Brampton tied in points. The Thunder has three Olympians on their roster-- forwards Vicky Sunohara and Jayna Hefford and defender Gillian Ferrari. Becky Kellar of Oakville is also on the national women's team that is gearing up to defend its Olympics gold medal from 2002. Still, five of the NWHL's top-10 scorers will be on the ice in Georgetown, including Kristy Zamora, Lori Dupuis and Karen Droog from Brampton, along with Carly Haggard and Lindsay Vine from Oakville. Before the NWHL match, there will be a couple of games involving the four novice house league Twister teams at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes. Tickets are $5 each and will be available at the door.
