Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, January 4, 2006 7 The Regional Municipality of Halton We Want to Hear Your Views! Proposed Provincial Growth Plan In late November, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal released a Proposed Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe under the Places to Grow Act, 2005. The Proposed Plan speaks to the Province's vision for managing growth to 2031 including how and where municipalities will grow. It also contains broad-level policies that will guide planning for the infrastructure needed to support growth as well as for the protection of our heritage and natural resources. Last spring, Halton hosted a Growth Forum on this topic and as a result provided the Province with the viewpoints of Halton's public as well as Regional and Local Councils' collective position on the Draft Plan. Now that the Proposed Plan has been released, we'd like to hear from you again. The Province has set January 27, 2006 as the due date for public comments. Given this short time frame and the intervening holidays, we would like to provide you with as many opportunities as possible to hear your views. Halton's website has been set up to receive input and provides a link to the Ministry's Proposed Growth Plan. Click on Provincial Growth Plan" at www.region.halton.on.ca to view or download a copy of the Plan. Region staff will prepare a Summary of Public Comments and present a Joint Regional and Local Municipal Response outlining our collective position for consideration by Council in early February. This timeline has been established to ensure we meet, as closely as possible, the Province's deadline for input. If you would like your feedback to be considered in Halton's response, please ensure you send your comments to the Region by January 13, 2006. Photo by Ted Brown Town wants restrictions on truck traffic before assuming control of Maple Ave. he Town of Halton Hills will attempt to get truck traffic restrictions placed on a portion of Maple Ave. before Halton Region signs over jurisdiction of the road to the Town. Residents have been complaining to the Wards 3 and 4 Regional Council Jane Fogal about truck traffic on Maple Ave., from Guelph St. to Mountainview Rd., she said at the December council meeting. While there is truck traffic restrictions on the road from Trafalgar Rd. to Guelph St., there is none on the T remainder because at the time there were no residents living on that stretch. "Now we've got more residents living there than the rest of the road," she said. Director of Engineering and Public Works Rick Henry said he would review the idea with Region staff to see if it's feasible before the road is downloaded to the municipality. Reconstruction of the road is scheduled for this year with the hand-over to the Town after its completion.
