pennanen moon a moniker applied by local ice artisan the late ken kirby presumably because of his smile was born in markham april 14 1943 he died sept 9 2005 within those 62 years moontlluminated the lives of everyone he met attain ing a pinnacle of respect that even he could never comprehend but wife connie did sons michael and matthew did sisterinlaw susan did and his community did if there were amazing but it was wayne the football player the softball player the hockey player the golfer and the euchre player who people remem ber most with one overrid ing positive he did every thing with a smile lloyd gayman brought this aspect of waynes nature to the fore during tribute time at the funeral service lloyd recalled an english assignment where each stu dent was required to stand in front of the class and deliver a brief speech wayne he said accepted the challenge with fear and trepidation when his turn came he said simply the subject of my address is world war ii would you roaming with jim thomas please bow your heads for two minutes silence with that he sat down other tribute speakers included former mayor wayne emmerson ruth patterson stewart wideman and kent wideman mr emmerson remem bered a slopitch game at ballantrae a teammate questioned waynes ability as a batter at that moment with one swing the ball landed far off in the tennis court good for a home run in this connection wayne was honoured by both the whitchurch- stouffville softball association and the ontario amateur softball association he was also a nominee for the prestigious sports personality of centre like a good shepherd with his flock he always made everyone feel wel come with his warm and friendly manner she said he was a role model a mentor for other people he faced adversity with courage and grace said stewart wideman son kent spoke of waynes strong faith he took what life had to offer always optimistic said kent this outlook never changed pastor lou geense said in recent years wayne had become a familiar figure in the front row of the sanctu ary at eastridge like others he told of waynes infectious smile and funloving nature if theres a ball diamond in heaven wayne
