stephen 6 are not being short changed when it comes to getting a formal education the gallagher children are home schooled the four sharethe sameteacher theirrhother leona gallagher teachermom wears another hat shes a 25year nurse who works parttime looking after babies with high needs at a hospital in scarborough societys first educator was the mother while during pioneer times and for many their age and grade level lauren is about to finish the grade 12 curriculum having taken some time off to work as a nanny last year laurens job took her to italy and barbados the 18-year- old plans to enter an australiabased bible college to take part in a rigorous survival pro gram lasting five months when lauren comes home shell head to university to study sociology strong in english literature and grammar michelle enjoys the grade 10 curriculum she hopes to follow in her mothers footsteps and become a nurse taking care of babies is a wonderful thing to do michelle points out jenna is in grade 6 maths okay but i dont like grammar she said however jeanna shines in history and geography after completing high school jenna plans to go onto university to study veterinary medicine while theres not a shy one in the bunch stephen takes the prize for being the most sociable a grade 1 student stephens doing some grade 2 and grade 3 work hes quick to learn said leona stephen thinks about his future i want to be a construc tion man or a hunter he said last week stephen told his family he was going to pur sue a career in law enforcement i was going to be a policeman except i might get shot in the leg it wouldnt be so bad to get shot in the back yours legs are more important so now i think ill be a hunter or a construction man said stephen besides sharing their teachermother and laddie the dog as a family pet the gallagher children share a newspaper route delivering the stouffville tribune to 38 homes in ballantrae twice aweek the children have had the route for two years even stephen does his bit like most carriers the gallaghers have had their time with sleet snow and wind and of course dogs some people dont keep their dogs on leashes its a problem said michelle contrary to what many think the gallagher children do not live in isolation no orjg is suffering loneliness most of their many friends are children in the neighborhood and at church faith and worship is very important in this family life the gallaghers are very active in the richmond hill community church meanwhile the children take lessons in piano and swimming and team sports are also on their agenda the kids sign up for soccer and softball every season they have quite the social calendar said leona their mother does take a break from teaching to make sure the kids do their house chores nobody isexcused she stresses leona and her airconditioning and heating mechanic husband don moved to ballantrae from unionville 13 years ago dons a great help hell pick up the slack including doing
