kevin will contest two senior categories while son keith tries his luck in three junior divi sions kevin 40 is hoping for a deja- vu of sorts as his 12yearold son attempts to duplicate his own grand national triumph of a quarter century ago it was 25 years ago this week end that i won the junior catego ry of canadian grand national championships versus scott goodyear said kevin who operates a computer business in stouifville keith is probably one of the three top junior riders in canada hes earmarked for the players driver development program kevin said he and his son are in top form as they prepare to go head to head with some of the best drivers from across north america while they both made the switch from european karts to the american margay kart at the beginning of the season the adjustment has now been made it takes a while to get used to the change said kevin its sort of like going from a porsche to a corvette said kevin but the adjustment has been made and both riders the countrys pre mier junior level pitcher when he went on to lead the alberta liners to the national crown in 1992 and 93 teams representing eight provinces are competing at this years national showdown with the napanee express back to defend their crown the preliminary round robin begins on sunday running through thursday the championship playoff round gets under way on friday wrapping up sunday afternoon admission is 10 per day 5 after 6 pm or 50 for the week kids 12 and under are free with an adult minor teams wear ing their uniforms are free from sunday through thursday stouffville minor softball product reno dambrosio will be wearing the colors of the host oshawa juniors at the event taking to the field sunday at 4 pm against quebec the oshawa squad plays new brunswick on monday at 8 pm saskatchewan tuesday at 8 pm british columbia wednesday 8 pm and ontarios fingalboxall juniors thursday 8 pm check it out watson brothers a slam hit with bramalea claremont residents rob and tom watson mainstays with the claremont rebels recently helped lead their bramalea slam isc travel league team to a firstplace finish in the leagues eastern division the slam then earned the right to contest the isc world tournament aug 817 in victoria bc by finishing second to the awesome owen sound tiremen in the isc qualifier last weekend in owen sound the watsons and chris wilson who pitched with the rebels last year will be in owen sound this weekend as the slam competes in the oasa mens senior eliminations the winner goes on to contest the 1997 casa senior mens nationals in victoria aug 2431 last year rob watson and wilson helped their wisconsin tournament squad to a record of five wins and two defeats at the worlds several other stouffville fastball players will be in owen sound this weekend as well wearing the uniforms of the uxbridge bandits who will be chasing after the oasa inter mediate mens title the bandits stouffville contingent includes byron baranieski chris and rich burkholder and rob reesor bantam ball girls aim for berth in provincials and of course here in stouffville the weston produceangies eatery bantam girls rep team is one of 1 1 teams vying for one of three spots up for grabs at the provin cial womens softball association qualifier being played at memorial park this weekend there should be some entertaining ball played at the town park as coach bill johnsons crew takes on the best from cen tres like peterborough and nepean and dont forget to come out and watch paul koert and evan boyd as they return from this weeks national midget finals in newfoundland to join their team ontario youth fast ball team for a memorial park doubleheader with the betz pool midgets and claremont rebels on thursday chilvers herbert stymie mud hens batters help rebels in 20 victory jim chilvers and cliffherbert combined on a onehitter as the claremont rebels blanked the visiting aurora mud hens 20 wednesday in an oshawa city and district fastball league game chilvers hurled a perfect two innings before having to leave the game at the start of the third with a pulled groin muscle herbert was more than capable in relief receiving superb defen sive supportas he shut down the mud hens on just one hit the rest of the way the mud hens managed their only hit of the night when they led offthe sixth with a single chilvers had four strikeouts in his two innings pitched with herbert fanning three the rebels scored their first run in the fifth inning when dale jones opened things off by smashing a triple over the aurora right fielders head then with two out came home on a scratch single by dave jones rob watson led offthe rebels sixth with a single advanced on a sacrifice by herbert then scored on a base hit by ray kurhan the victory extended the rebels winning streak to six games since being upended by the uxbridge bandits june 25 dale jones also had a single to go with his key triple tow-
