right now ontario is being posi tioned in a very positive light as a world leader in rabies research and largescale aerial vaccination this could lead to additional projects with other states in the northeastern us laura bigler who heads up rabies research at cornell university ithaca ny and who is a driving force behind the proposed vaccination projects in the us midatlantic region is very keen on utilizing ontario aerial vacci nation baiting to fight raccoon rabies in new york pennsylvania ohio new hampshire and maine this particular strain of raccoon rabies is threatening to move into canada through ontario quebec and new brunswick said maclnnes it is definitely in our best interests to sup- port the fight against this disease in the us and eliminate it there before we have to contend with it here ontario mnr aircraft made limited vaccine bait drops in new york state in 1995 and 96 with financial support from quebec and state officials are very impressed with the results
