both chretien and provincial premiers at the same time he described himself as non partisan and said he wont talk about his election opponents or other parties even in his cam paign literature but wilfert said hes comfort able running for the liberals a party out to create the gentler more tolerant society which he believes in although he believes govern ment should have a social con science wilfert also thinks in some cases government should let business people do their jobs with less interference and con centrate on creating an economic climate for prosperity government should not be there to interfere he argued more than once he recalled he demonstrated his aversion to red tape or endless debate by putting a pair of scissors on the table at a meeting and saying lets get on with it but he also believes in process the proper way to reach a goal he added that he found the ontario governments merger of metropolitan toronto municipali ties extremely offensive because it ran roughshod over local leaders after wilfert became a council lor he studied for two years to become an accredited municipal clerk or treasurer just so he could better understand the job politicians
