lisvttivv st weekender november 2 1996 p 7 latcham gallery was terrific venue for show artist letters dear editor i came to stouffville for the first time several years ago because i had entered and been accepted in the juried show at the latcham gallery since then both my hus band who is also an artist and i have participated in many of the shows it was a great honor to have my solo show trees at the gallery this summer thank you stouffville and gallery staff for the warm and professional attention you gave the exhibition its rare to find a gallery like this in any ontario town outside toron to its a magnet ive met many of the artists and volunteers and peo ple from the area im sure it con tributes to the economy each time we enter a show we deliver the work pick up the rejects attend the opening pick up the work after the show and in between we come up to see the show with friends on prac tically every visit we eat lunch or dinner here occasionally buy gas and have bought groceries at the iga maybe somebody could add up the sums spent here by art lovers its more important to know that an art lover can be a child a man in a wheelchair a teenager no mem bership necessary it was great tobe in the gallery while my show was on and see a group of twelve year olds wander in to see what was happen ing for them the trees exhibit was an interesting surprise for my acquaintances who came to see the show the surprise was questions arise reader dear editor in response to your recent days of action opinion column may i ask several questions do you really believe that the thousands who took part in these days did so easily and with absolutely no concern for those affected do you really believe that on sat urday the tens of thousands many of them teachers who marched the appreciable distance from the exhi bition grounds to queens park are not seriously concerned about the effect of indiscriminate cuts to our social assistance health care and education systems do you really believe that the inci dents of vandalism shoving etc that you describe in your column were really representative of what was happening on friday and sat urday oct 25 and 26 do you really believe these pro testers should have meekly aban doned their principles and picket lines because of questionable legal decisions rather than risk the conse quences of challenging them further do you also believe that nafta has no serious effect on wages in this province and per haps you also believe that it is okay for the top 20 per cent of our income earners to siphon off more of our total income each yearly largely at the expense of the lowest 20 per cent of our income earners lastly does conrad black own the tribune bruce johnston stouffville stouffville heres a quote from a card sent to me by helen devisser i was in toronto last week show that is a lovely gallery edge of main street and returned via stouffville it and a beautiful old town i had nikolette jakovac was such a pleasure to see your tea at the tea shop on the toronto tons itshhht the deals that make you r wl nter warm for kids sweaters shirts boots hats gloves for the home flannel sheets cookware kettles more denim for all levis except 50ts kids silvertab attitude retreat blues until sunday nov 10th excludes factory outlet and warehouse stores savings off regular prices w eatons we want to be your store
