p16 weekender june19 1993 fffftrfvft st art local artist has distinctive style kate g1lderdale correspondent while the work of lemonville artist lyn marnoch liddle does not fit neatly into a specific genre her highly distinctive style is unmistakable marnoch liddles landscapes are alive with color both vibrant and subtle celebrating natures palette with a unique verve and energy beautiful splashy sunflowers a lowering sky over beaver val ley a still life with dolls and teddy bears each painting is filled with myriad detail and a joie de vivre that is impossible to ignore its in the genes explained marnoch liddle whose mater nal grandfather was acclaimed artist rwf capel a colleague of the group of seven i started to draw in my mothers cookbooks when i was two and took formal lessons at the art gallery of windsor when i was six although she has concentrat ed on watercolors in recent years she is currently painting in oils again once youve painted in one medium and experimented with different colors forms and shapes then youre ready to go on to the next thing she observed marnoch liddle began her artistic career after completing a four year course in advertis ing illustration at the ontario college of art from which she graduated with honors in 1962 she worked in commercial art for eight years while raising her family and continued studying at oca the three schools of art and the toronto school of art she also studied portraiture in oil with gerald scott of toronto and daniel green of danbury conn more recently she has studied watercolor with joan folinsbee ofthornhill ive always been interested in drawing figures the human form and portraits we really feel strongly that something like the gallery should be able to continue to give these artists an audience lyn marnoch liddle as well she does a lot of still life and especially enjoys paint ing out of doors a small group of us meet out side at a friends studio in thornhill on tuesdays and thursdays we have a small group here in lemonville marnoch liddle has just been elected to membership of the society of canadian artists and is also a member of the markham group of artists and the ontario college of art alumni her work has been featured in many exhibitions including juried shows at latcham gallery where she is also a vol unteer i think its a sad thing that theyre considering doing at the moment she said refer ring to the withdrawal of grants from the town i dont like the idea of a user fee art has to be for everybody at every level of the economic scale not just the ones that can afford to see it and thats why were blessed to be a public gallery without such a facility she said many area artists will lose the opportunity to show their work publicly we really feel strongly that something like the gallery should be able to continue to give these artists an audience art classes are a booming business right now marnoch liddle said its interesting when you teach adults to see how many of them especially the men take up art after theyve retired and when someone has artis tic talent she said its a god- given gift which should be not be ignored theres a state when youre creating in art thats like bliss it takes you out of yourself marnoch liddle has donated one of her paintings coach house studio for a fundrais ing raffle for latcham gallery the work is on display in the library and tickets are avail able from the front desk at 2 each three for 5 or 10 for 15 phouvceuabitonkhorst lvn marnoch liddle has presented one of her paintings for a raffle to benefit the latcham gallery 4 i- c
