enough french students to form an entire school but parents dont know how to tap into french education according to chris tian meunier as the newlyelected chair of the french language advi sory committee of the york region board of education meunier is promoting his group to french residents meunier left brochures with local libraries and the wel come wagon to acquaint cur rent residents and newcom ers to stouffville with the ser vices provided through the committee the pamphlet gives parents vital information such as how to determine if their child qualifies for french education there is no extra charge for french education or trans portation to and from school how to register and where to call 4169698131 ext 327 as of september 106 stu dents enrolled in the york region public system attend ed french first language schools in scarborough north york toronto and eto- bicoke but the potential for an entire french school for york region students is real according to meunier using 1991 statistics cana da numbers there are more than 1000 francophone ele mentary and secondary stu dents in york region of these 32 live in stouffville the french school concept is still at the thinking stage because of the cost in setting up a local french- language sec- jtion in the public board a york region campus would most likely take the form of a satellite meunier school in toronto representatives from the york durham peel halton and metro toronto boards are working with the metropoli tan toronto frenchlanguage school council to come up with a model to serve the 4000 french students in the greater toronto area a cooperative effort will save the boards money through sharing services resources and facilities meunier said there are two openings for french residents on the committee interested people can call the phone number listed at left museum sees 12 increase since 90 the whitchurchstouffville museum has seen a 12 per cent increase in the number of people visiting the historical facility since 1990 states the 1993 annual report the museum hosted a tour of the facility to 51 school classes or 1320 students and 116 accompanying adults in 1993 made seven presentations to 265 people through school visits and took 61 brownie and girl guides on a tour in addition the museum earned more than 7000 from educa tion childrens and general programs the annual report states chairman john aaltink told officials last week that the museum continues to provide aculturally vibrant experience for many and volunteers are justly proud of our accomplishments throughout the year in 1993 the museum received 266 artifacts from 30 donors including photographs documentary material clothing school desks and a pie safe the museum also hosted many special events throughout the year including the promotion and opening of a new exhibit join the club the schoolhouse held barrelmaking demonstrations hosted the annual antique and classic car show classic motor cycle show lace demonstration and sale began an endowment fund and held two successful quilling workshops as well as the annual victorian tea copies of the annual report are available at the medical rea sons the sentencing was to have been handed down by mr justice john mclsaac friday morning grimshaw was found guilty on all three charges of using funds belonging to the wmtchurchstouffville minor hockey association wsmha for his own personal purposesin the late 1980s grimshaw was serving as wsmha treasurer at the time grimshaw who faces a maximum 10 years in prison
