seri ous i started doing it out of a desire to do something a little different explained the stouffville resident who decided to use her skills to cre ate her own wedding invitations people at work would ask me to do cards and it developed that way i had seven years of playing with it and the last three years since com ing back from vancouver ive been a part of the toronto calligraphic guild during that time she has been taught by a number of experts in the field and that experience convinced her to get more involved in this graceful and timeless art while family is very much a top pri ority for mcllvride kimball who has a 7yearold daughter vanessa and who is expecting a baby in the fall she finds calligraphy fits in well with her schedule at home ive put framed pieces together and ive sent some of my designs to a card company she noted things are starting to evolve at a good pace for me now she is hoping to place some of her framed work in retail stores and will also be demonstrating her skills in the ministudios at this years uxbridge celebration of the arts her work will also be on sale later this year at the latcham gallerys annual fundraiser beyond crafts right now im doing predom inantly framed work but theres a new canadian card company and i sent them my portfolio they liked my work and i imagine theyll ask for specimens for particular cards in august mcllvride kimball will be teaching some of the basic calli graphic skills to children from 6 years old and up at the whitchurch- stouffville library she first taught just after she moved into town when the librarian at vanessas school asked her if she would be willing to give a class she got such a response she had to turn people away while public interest in the art seems to be grow ing
