stt tribune july 24 1991 p7 recital coverage disappoints scrapbook clippers dear editor i was most disappointed in your recent noncoverage of the dance recital held at the high school over two nights at the end of may there was not one word mentioned jp the following medweek paper and bhly a picture with a small caption below in the weekender the children under the wonderful direction of michele green prac ticed long and hard for this recital mrs green is an extremely dedi cated polished dance teacher and all her students performed beauti fully in front of a very appreciative editors mail vvvavxvx x vy- audience both nights and they are all to be congratulated for a superb performance each evening as a music maniac i know first hand how much hard work energy time dedication and love goes into a production of this nature and mrs green and her students cer tainly deserve substantial recogni tion in your paper for their efforts more and more i find your news paper filled mainly with sports advertisements and real estate ads and less and less with local news stories its time to rethink priori- ties when an event like this receives no reviews for all those children parents and grandparents who eagerly await the writeup and save the newspa per clippings for their scrapbook the tribune let them down carolyn duggan stouffville editors note we feel it should be noted that the tribune in our continuing efforts to provide awards available for pet contest winners dear editor this is an open letter to all par ticipants in the strawberry festi val pet contest we the organiz ers of the contest understood that it would be for children only and also that the expected number of contestants would be in the neighborhood of 20 to 25 we wish to apologize to all the con testants for the confusion that wvvvv vfj i- i- 0sm arose because of the large num ber of entrants which was well over 100 and consisted of a large proportion of adults we were not prepared for such a turnout and unfortunately ran out of ribbons we would like to invite any children who participated in the contest but who did not receive a participant ribbon to pick up their ribbon at the tribune offices during the next week or so thanks again to all the contes tants the pets were all terrific and you were very patient thanks also to paulmac pet foods in success square for donating the prizes joanne harman and events ran a story and photograph on ms greens school and the recital two weeks before the event kate gilderdale also featured the recital in her grapevine column and we high lighted the event in our communi ty calendar for that week and while it is true that the stu- dents at the dancecentre work hard any further coverage may not be perceived as fair by some other groups just as deserving of coverage it also should be noted that the beginning of june is a very busy time in our community and our photographer was unable to spend a great deal of time at the recital in fact he attended four other community events dur ing his shift we find it unfortu nate that you were let down by our coverage of this event but at the same time we have other events to cover in addition the tribune was never formally asked to cover the dance recital but put it on our coverage list because we realized the community value of the event v sale starts july 24 to aug 10 f annual sroabgloth salf j5
