with the peo ple here he says its a youthful operation rick claims because everyone likes what theyre doing it doesnt really seem like work but we make sure we do our best v because of this attitude rick is doing what he does best hes held his present position two years coming to tsn from hockey night in canada where he started in the late 70s and re- mained five years when rick left that operation he was primarily a producer reworking on intermission features calling in for out-of- own scores from around the nhl and helping organize the s threestar selections m in 1984 he received a call from the vicepresident in charge of programming at tsn he va of- fered a job a any time you receive a call like that its an honor rick says he quickly accepted recently tsn celebrated that stations fourth birthday ricks pleased to be a part of a growing operation so many folks dislike their jobs i consider myself lucky im paid for doing a hobby he states rick claims hes always been interested in sports and the work is right up his alley following graduation from ijjstouffville dist secondary o rick enrolled at ryerson polytechnical institute where he received his degree in radio and television arts he then went to i work as a student sportscaster at ncfrb where he remained two summers later he spent four months at cko and three years at cfgm oris rick is currently producing expos telecasts for tsn he spent the entire summer travell- r ing with the team visiting every national league city around the i circuit the players are very co- 1 operative he says win or j lose their moods dont change all that much j rick describes his job as that of f a problemsolver in organizing t planning and preparing j telecasts problems often arise he admits one of his most rewarding ex periences was arranging tsns hockey package of nhl telecasts last spring he describes this as the highlight of my career the success of tsns hockey playoff coverage was widely ac- claimed he says we were able to bring infor mation to the viewer quickly us ing a number of satellite dishes rick explains which sport is the most dif- ficult to telecast baseball replies rick you never know where the ball is going rick enjoys covering boxing best however one of his great moments in sport was participa tion in the 1988 calgary games he handled the production of speedskating events and worked as a freelancer for ctv while on holidays remote production sites he says are his first love rick resides in port credit gods country he calls it i tell everyone they should move here he says yes hes
