the program pupils show appreciation fouryearold ashley visser represented the jr and sr kindergartens of st marks school in presenting pianist dorothy caranci with a special gift in appreciation of her assistance mrs caranci is one of several volunteer mothers who willingly gives of her time to aid pupilteacher programs jim thomas goodwood school project trees decorated for needy families by kate gilderdale goodwood while the rela tionship between residents and gravel companies is often strain ed standard aggregates is help ing spread the spirit of goodwill by donating christmas trees to goodwood public school according to kindergarten teacher tessie dempster the company had donated nine trees every christmas for the past seven years they are grown at hortons tree farm in whitchurchstouffville the kindergarten children visit the property and choose the ones they like best when cut the trees are carried or dragged to a nearby hay wagon each classroom receives one tree and the pupils decorate it with great glee the decorations are all handmade some at home and some at school the work takes about two weeks to complete when goodwood school closes for christmas holidays dec 16 the trees are placed outside ready for pickup by needy families in the area theyre usually all gone in about two hours mrs demp ster said for the children who decorate emphasizes the true meaning of them and for the families who christmas amidst an atmosphere receive them this special project of blatant commercialism going strong at age 100 stouffville blanche ruth and freda henderson were pleased to attend an open house recently in honor of their uncle ross henderson of toronto the occasion was his 100th birthday mr henderson is an active member in the congregation of bedford park united church this association goes back 65 years hes been an elder in the church 40 years he was the founder of the mens club born at cherrywood in picker ing his parents mr and mrs john henderson resided at gormley back in the 1920s uncle ross was employed with the ttc for 40 years here- mains active and in good health at the 64th anniversary of bed ford park united church mr henderson was honored by the congregation a citatiofn delivered by arthur langley read in part ross hendersons entire life in his youth his marriage his family his community his work and his church has been an astonishing record of service of giving of helping and caring he assisted the poor the homeless the sick and the dispirited it was a calling for him to seek out those less fortunate than himself and to offer what he could to help how lucky we are that this man so alert so independent so active and so caring should have been spared to continue to inspire us by his example st marks bodkin ex plained that combining the primary classes jr kindergarten to grade 3 would fill the gymnasium beyond capacity as it was some parents arriv ed an hour in advance of the con cert to secure
