c12 tribune december 14 1988 cementheads tarnished tournament the hockey tournament staged by the stouffville pee wee clip pers at the recreation centre saturday left me wondering about the sanity of some who would claim to be devoted to the betterment of our youth ive admitted to being a homer before and ill admit i have a tendency to side with the familiar white and maroon of the clippers when things get down to the nitty gritty however my overall sense of fair play dictates my reaction to what i see taking place at all times i want to see stouffville win but i want it to be in an exemplary fashion that way there can be no sour grapes no leftover bitterness no scores to be settled next time the teams hit the ice and that attitude is usually found among those who coach the stouffville teams at least at all the home games i attend but un fortunately the same cannot be said for some of the socalled adults masquerading as visiting bruce stapley sport notes coaches i can only hope our leaders of boys are not displaying the same cementheaded ap proach when representing our town in such places as port in girls action ross photo dump mph earthmover atoms 50 perry bowmanville and pickering saturdays consolation round was a rather onesided affair with the pee wee clippers jump ing out of the starting gate to grab a quick lead en route to a 61 pasting of cooksville sensing defeat early in the game one particularly boisterous cooksville player pro ceeded to forget about the game setting out to trip punch spear buttend and generally interfere with anybody wearing a clippers sweater the kid a big bullying type for whom the word goon was originally coined some years ago became more offensive as the game wore on obviously the combination of his surly nature the inevitable defeat and the fatigue factor brought on by play ing three games in one day had rendered troy moulton a little more than testy i stood there shaking my head as this kid hovered around the ice lining up stouffville players to bash and bruise sure the referees caught the odd infrac tion and despite moultons at tempts to defy even the referee by skating to his team bench in stead of the penalty box when called for one misdemeanor he was reminded occasionally that there was an authority that he must respect however both referees doug rexgraham and the cooksville coach in my opinion were negligent in their handling of the kid and there was an inevitability to what transpired at the conclu sion of the game had rexgraham seen fit to 2 toss the illbehaved youngster out of the game when it became ap parent he wasnt interested in c playing hockey or had the cooksville coach showed some character and benched the youth when he saw the danger he was presenting on the ice then stouf f villes lee wideman would have been spared moultons final- second blindsided body smash that left the clipper in near agony at a time when he should have been able to enjoy his teams victory it was a blatant case of intent to injure nothing short of a season suspension should have been imposed on moulton but he simply skated away like king kong after he had disposed of another victim and we wonder why people dont come out to the arena to i watch hockey any more in atom house league action jody grabiec earned another shutout as george ross photo defeated mph earthmoving by a 50 margin the mph earthmoving team didnt give up and created some excellent chances with shyla brennan and morgan dubkowski coming close testing jody grabiec in net the third period was tight with good defence by katie white and krista dudlev for mph earthmoving and kirsten fraser for george ross photo limiting the scoring opportunities the george ross team added another goal by stephanie sum- merhill when leandre forsyth was rewarded for her hard work throughout the game when she set up the final score the george ross team started strongly and built a 30 first period lead stephanie somerville took a pass from nicole bardell and outskated sswsffisss atoms lose to port perry made it 30 and combined on a further tally in the second period when a pass from turner was converted by bardell for her second of the game the stouffville atom clippers fell to port perry 52 friday night in the scugog town stouffville were victims of a power play goal in the first period and a tipin made it 20 for port the
