c4 tribune september 7 1988 week of peace to be celebrated sept 2027 by denise mcdonald whitchurchstouffville coun cil is planning a week of peace celebration sept 2027 although the program isnt final several activities are in planning stages according to a report presented aug30 a peal for peace ceremony will be held sept 20 at noon in the town square a formal peace proclamation will be read by mayor fran sainsbury- in addition a childrens art show is planned with elemen tary school students asked to submit art work related to the peace theme exhibits will be arranged for public display a plywood peace wall measuring 8 ft by 20 ft will be erected on the canadian tire property main street west high school students will be asked to draw peace art as an example to the public who will later be asked to participate during the weeks festivities a minipeace survey is planned at whitchurchhighlands public school this will be com pared to a major peace survey to take place in town sept 17 and oct 16 in a ceremony entitled remembering war so it is no more senior citizens will be asked to speak with young peo ple and share their memories of war in order that young people may appreciate the peace we now enjoy several peace organizations will be invited to an informal gathering at latcham hall sept 25 other events include a peace film festival at parkview village and a recep tion for mr newcombe founder of the peace research institute of dundas several sports events will be staged with proceeds going to the markham stouffville hospital building fund ottawa report scholarships are award ed on the basis of academic per formance and will provide up to 800000 a period of four years to students pursuing degrees in science and engineering and related disciplines the canada scholarship award program was announced by the prime minister last january at the national con ference on technology and in novation held in toronto the program will fund over 13 billion in scholarships over the next five years following the tradition of- ex cellence in ontario riding there are 15 students from ontario riding who will be awarded a canada scholarship the students are as
