tribune anniversar wednesday june 29 1988 page 13 spin riendly competition we say happy 100th birthday to the staff of the tribune blow out the candles cfrb radio show visited stouffville a vveeklv newspaper serving the tovn of vvmitchurch stouffvilu on november 16 1944 the tri bune announced an exciting event for stouffville with the headline radio program to be broadcast from here on dec 15 the story continues for the first time in its history a fullscale radio broadcast is to be made from stouff ville over cfrb on the evening of friday dec 15 when the ontario panorama program sponsored by the willard chocolate co will origin ate from this centre gordon sinclair and alan savage wellknown to radio listeners will be here for the broadcast and will personally con duct the program ontario panorama is a popular friday evening halfhour entertain ment show aired at 9 pm each week a different ontario town is chosen to broadcast from and stouffville is fortunate to have been chosen as one of those places to get this publicity the program will be issued from the stanley theatre and a full house that night will be able to witness just how a big broadcasting station oper ates local people will be inter viewed on this program and some interesting things will be revealed on dec 21 a front page story enti tled local broadcast well received by radio audience reviewed the event ontario panorama radio program broadcast from the stanley theatre stouffville last friday night must have been listened to by thousands of people in canada and the united states alan savage master of cere monies and his globe trotting part ner gordon sinclair were both pre sent in person and of course made a lot of new friends those who were heard on the air during the broad cast were mrs harold spofford miss mary borisuk and mssrs don chadwick george asten fred tim bers james brodie and av nolan each telling something of his or her particular line of business or profes sion the sponsors of the program the willard chocolate co have the thanks of the people of stouffville for bringing their broadcast to our town which was sponsored locally by the lions club mr and mrs schmidt of the stanley theatre generously don ated half the evening receipts from admissions to the club while the willard co presented the editor of the tribune with a 50 cheque asking him to donate it to some charity this is the first time in the history of the town that a broadcast of this nature was ever attempted here it entailed detail and arrangement the speakers voice is gathered up in the transmitter on the stage relayed to the central office of the telephone co and from here to the broadcast ing station of cfrb in toronto which meant the tieup of a long dis tance line during the half hour program iellington chef michael dicks is busy preparing the lunchtimc fare at kcllingtons while own er george themilis oversees the opera tion george themilis and steve pet- ru know the restaurant business for a combined total of 23 years they have held every job from dis hwasher to bartender and recent ly opened their first restaurant kellingtons located in the new stouffville mall was designed in a 1920s concept or art nouveau according to themilis mahogany is predominate inside the res taurant with variations of blue and red we wanted to bring a bit of the city into stouffville themilis said while kellingtons bar and dance floor instantly attracted a local clientele petru explained that it is a family restaurant first chef michael dicks overseas the kitchen specializing in a vari ety of dishes from veal tortellini to an eight ounce new york steak with peppercorn sauce a variety of desserts are baked daily on the premises including fresh apple pie and strawberry mousse sunday brunch has been well received at kellingtons each week and is served from noon to 3 pm themilis and petru were influ enced by other family members in the restaurant business before branching out on their own we took the best of what we both had learned over the years and pooled it into our res taurant themilis said it cant get busy enough for us fortu nately were both young and energetic and can handle the work open seven days a week for lunch and dinner kellingtons also has a dj nightly from 930 pm playing top 40 dance tunes and older rock and roll nine television sets are situated throughout the restaurant where patrons can enjoy dance videos and major sports events kellingtons seats 141 people with booths and tables a patio will be opened shortly reserva tions are suggested steve petru demonstrates his skill at bar tending at the newly opened kellingtons restaurant located in stouffville mall
