sunday sept 6 the preliminary cham pionships in the one day event are a tough test of horse and rider as they are judged in dressage cross country and stadium jumping riders in the preliminary divi sion are at a very high skill level many of them are future olympic hopefuls and the riding should be superb on sunday meadowridge farms will also be hosting one day event horse trials in the training divison on sunday while riders in the start ing division take to the course on saturday also in each division there will be a special veterans cham pionship riders over 39 years old qualify to compete in this category the event is sanctioned by the ontario horse trials association most observers are familiar with horse trials as part of the three day event which has been an olympic sport since 1912 the three day event tests horse and rider in dressage skills on day one then puts them through a grueling cross country course on the second day before finishing up with stadium jump ing on day three after the cross country portion horses must pass a veterinary ex amination to assure they are fit for competition in stadium jumping the one day event is similar to the three day in the dressage and stadium jumping but the cross country portion of the competition is greatly reduced admission to the trials at meadowridge farm is free and competition begins at 8 am and continues till 3 pm both saturday and sunday the farm is located just north of sandford in uxbridge township travel north to herald road first road north of highway 9 then east to sandford and north again at the general store
