source and was able two or three years ago to subscribe to your paper like my grandmother effie middleton kilby i too have a scrapbook which now boasts a number of clippings from the tri bune i enjoy reading the tribune be cause i appreciate the local news and the nostalgic photos which sometimes appear on the edito rial page i especially enjoyed eleanor todds articles which appeared some time ago in con nection with a school reunion and i appreciate reading from time to time about my distant relatives who live in the area now in this my first letter-to- aneditor i am hoping that you might find a tiny space to mention that i am working on a middleton family history for publication early in 1987 the middleton fami ly is large and i am sure that there are many who are con nected that i have been unable to contact as yet in uxbridge and pickering townships and else where as well i would appreciate being able to let these people know that i am looking for family statistics stories of life in the good old days and photo graphs in order to make our ancestors seem alive in the pages of a book which i hope will be an important contribution to the his tory of the area sincerely mrs victoria fraser i box 331 richmond hill l4c 4y6 dear editor mahatma gandhi once said there is enough in the world for mans need but not enough in the world for mans greed this is very true its a shame that while the world is spending an estimated 1300 billion every year on weapons and building over 20 new nuclear warheads daily and while theres an oversupply of food grain millions of innocent children die due to hunger and dis ease because of lack of funds additional millions that do not die may lead impeded lives be cause their brains have been damaged their bodies stunted and their vitality sapped every day 5000 children die from dehydration caused by di arrhea unicef by its miracu lous and simple treatment of salt and sugar mixed with water stops dehydration from draining away fragile life in another five years unicef could save two million children a year from death due to dehydration unicef has drastically cut the infant mortality rate in many countries with programs like child immunization promotion of breastfeeding provisions for clean drinking water and oral re hydration it has been awarded the nobel peace prize for its no ble work unicef has an excellent work ing relationship with other relief agencies and all government bodies it has immense expertise to get the most out of aid dollars it deserves our continued gener ous support helping needy chil dren is true christmas spirit not the kind that comes in a bottle i urge readers to show compas sion and gods love in a practical way by answering the cries of starving children please use the very beautiful unicef cards this christmas tax deductible dona tions matched by the federal gov ernment as well as governments of recipient countries may be sent to unicef canada 443 mount pleasant road toronto m4s motorists for speeding on the ninth line of markham particularly in the area between 19th and 16th ave- the 60 km limit through much of this stretch is ridicu- jousv upon what is it based cer tainly not residential buildup or a school zone or hidden in tersections theres nothing only a few scattered homes like one might see on any other ru ral road- for some reason the town of markham has seen fit to pass a bylaw that plays right into the hands of the police every time their coffee fund runs a little low they park a cruiser be- ith and i9th avenues and wring hundreds of dollars out of innocent motorists its a crime v i consider myself a sensible driverbut a 60 km speed zone in the middle of nowhere is stupid v sincerely 7 peter gillies rr 1 slouffville freshen up your home for the
