weekender november 15 i986 p5 vandals at cenotaph dear sir as a member of the canadian legion markham district veter ans and as a markham resident i would like to thank the persons responsible for the desecration of the markham cenotaph and for the theft of the symbol of our coun try the flag on nov 8 1986 in their actions the persons re sponsible show that the mentality that produced bookburning krys- tal nacht and euthanasia for the sick still live on even in our town by vandalising the poppy wreaths paid for directly and in directly by the residents of mar kham they show how much easier it has always been to des troy rather than build to insult rather than forgive an austrian politician has said the took the slavs and we said nothing they took the gypsies the catholics and the jews and we take us there was no one left to speak again my thanks to the perpet rators who by their actions indi cate that the forces of intolerance are with us still sam curry said nothing when they came to markham yellow monsters dont belong here restore service he says dear sir theres something serious ly wrong when an ambulance service is withdrawn during an earlymorning period when it may be needed most this as i understand it is the situation in stouffville the ambulance isnt allowed to leave the station after mid night whatever the problem it should be solved and fast be fore the town ends up with a tragedy and a law suit on its hands gordon sheppard stouffer street stouffville dear sir school bus drivers are con cerned about driving to and from newmarket every day to pick up and deliver their vehicles too bad do they realize the hundreds of people who commute to and from toronto every day wouldnt it be nice if each one of us had a job only a few steps from the front door if the work pays so little itll be up to the company and individual drivers to find a convenient park ing location somewhere in the stouffville community certainly a residential subdivi sion is anything but convenient to the folks who daily and nightly must gaze out upon these ugly yellow monsters gladys lynch north street stouffville w- warmupspeiats heai tt serve boston blue fish n batter 9 99 5lb box markham dist high school the program despite the large numbers of students involved was carried out in a very efficient manner one thing irritated me howev er i couldnt understand why a crosssection of young socalled academics insisted on hooting and hollering when certain awardwinners were introduced this occurred continuously markham high prides itself in being a sophisticated learning in stitution next year i would sug gest a course on etiquette should be included in the curriculum helen fitzpatrick markham reader unhappy over kids show ending dear sir on sunday nov 9 my three- yearold son and i attended the kim jerry brodey show at the markham theatre for the most part we enjoyed the performance but i was very disappointed by how the show en ded a letter was read out to the young audience about a little girl who lived in south africa who talked about no school today be cause the police had closed it down and the shooting of friends at this point i left with my son we had come to this show for family entertainment and not to hear about people being shot by guns and killed i hope that the markham theatre hears from more parents of young children who came to the show for a afternoon of family en tertainment and who were dis appointed by the ending as i was c buckley markham what a price dig into a juicy fullflavoured homestyle single burger for only 99c its a heck of
