markham council in brief town seeks 3 million for roads and bridges weekender november 15 1986 p3 markham council voted tues day to seek more than 3 million in interim payment from the pro vince for roads and bridge con struction done this year the town is eligible for the pay ment under the public trans portation and highway improve ment act for work done between january and september according to figures calculated by the town it spent 490000 on roads construction and 24 mil lion on maintenance almost 200000 was spent on bridge con struction and maintenance library given extra money a system that would see stouffvil- les present 16hour service ex tended to cover the period be tween midnight and 8 am when stouffville ambulance workers go off duty at midnight local emergency calls are co vered by other area services until 8 am but mr robb said hed like to see the towns own ambulance personnel man the station through the night or at least be available oncall i just believe that stouffville is growing at such a rate that we have to seriously look at it ex plained councillor robb who is employed as a fulltime firefigh ter it seems to me the really se rious calls are between
