a4 economist suntribune may 7 1986 s- editors mail fine talent dear editor i was pleased to read in the april 30 tribune that music mania will continue to be a main event in pur town next year and hopefully years in the future my personal preference in the 86 show was the singing i thought the chorus while fewer in numbers did a splendid job rightly or wrongly 1 wish to sing le out two people for honorable men tion one is michelle green for her tapdance number and the other is ruth patterson for her vocal selec tion i dont know either personally i found out their names by checking backstage later whitchurchstouffville is blessed with excellent talent music mania provides an opportunity for these people to shine in public sincerely betty taylor north street stouffville standard dear editor in this day and age when stu dent apparel includes everything i under the sun the adoption of uni form dress tends to irritate our young people while we as parents and you as an editor may approve because they look nice the students want to feel independent further many dont really care if they look nice as long as they look neat some dont even care about that the christian school as i under stand it already has uniform dress of sorts the recommenda tion by the parents organization goes a step further once adopted if it is it will be come a criteria of the school its the church street north stouffville prepared dear editor i wish to commend and criticize our town council for its handling of the bylaw to control adult enter tainment in our municipality i feel its wise to have a bylaw in place before an application is made otherwise the decision must be made retroactive the courts often look with disfavor on controls after the fact be prepared is a wise procedure to follow but why permit even one of these establishments one is one too many and why locate it in an industrial area what has a strip club in common with industry perhaps through the tribune our mayor or a member of council can provide answers to these ques tions sincerely kathleen drummond rr 1 gormley the itibune ontario community james thomas editor established 1888 bruce annan pat pappas a problem the project would have to be planned to fit available space smile of the week dear editor please accept this item as my contribution to your papers smile of the week prior to the introduction of places like parkview home grandparents lived with their sons daughters and grandchildren my aged mother lived with us her favorite pasttime was sewing but she had one bad habit that of sticking needles in any cushion that was convenient one day a neighbor came calling close to mealtime as was her prac tice we had barely enough food in the house for ourselves we couldnt really accommodate any more the neighbor selected a chair near the tabic and sat down but not for long the needle was there and she was in the air she went straight up with a flurry she grabbed her be longings and headed out the door we all sat in silence but my mother managed a smile almost like shed planned it we always wondered regardless it worked sincerely jean betts gormley rr 1 in our opinion the site owned by marie adams on the southeast corner of albert street and main would be ideal the former hillerup property at edward and second streets would also be suit able this lot is already zoned commer cial so is the site of the former grant turner home at park drive north and main there may be more the latter two were recently sold the purchasers may have something like this in mind while its simple to put forward sug gestions and have someone else foot the bill we see it as a wise investment for anyone with funds to invest the need is apparent now and will undoubtedly in crease as the town continues to grow one office complex is all we require the first off the mark will undoubtedly come up a winner successful event stouffville dist secondary school tookon an air of educational informality wednesday when staff and students hosted their first sdss open house in eight years it proved a tremendous success an estimated 500 people toured the building and viewed with interest the many classroom projects some com pleted and some in the process of com pletion while this learning experience made for an informative evening equally im portant was the fellowship aspect of the night the coming together of students teachers and parents in a setting partial ly removed from the classroom it tended to put everyone at ease and make for an enjoyable event while public support was excellent so also was the cooperation of students and staff truly a community effort on behalf of a community school our personal thanks to principal john nikifork viceprincipal rod leonard and all others for their work in making the high school open house sooutstand- ing for a change this assignment wasnt work it was fun i love visiting the united states i enjoy the country with world as a family we go there at every opportun ity and were planning to go again this summer to the most favored of all places cooperstown new york home of baseballs hall of fame we were there once about ten years ago but our stay was far too short this time i want to see more of the town talk to some of the people and maybe if were lucky see a ball game the uniqueness of cooperstown defies description and so do the natives ill never forget conversing with one senior citizen who prided himself in the fact he once met the late great ty cobb and shared conversation over a cup of coffee with the immortal babe ruth there are ten thousand stories to be told like these but it really doesnt matter where we go south of the border theres lots to see and do but dont get me wrong im not to talk to sever al boone county students i found them friendly polite honest and mature each seemed eager to tell something of hisher home town and make compari sons between the two countries your
