w sdss prepares for first fitness challenge by brian kirlik sports editor stouffville district secondary school will hold its firstever interschool fit ness challenge on thursday may 30 although sdss has held its own simi lar fitness competition within the school for the past several years this is the first time such a competition has been held this is the first time there will have ever been a fitness challenge said the competitions organizer dave connell i think its going to be a classy event ive had this in mind for several years said the boys physical educa tion department head i expect this will turn into an annual event as things stand now five teams in cluding sdss will compete in the chal lenges four events sutton aurora newmarket and don head have all con firmed their attendance while king city and woodbridge are trying to find the full complement of eight competitors im happy that there will be five teams connell said im sure 40 peo ple will keep us busy every team entered must have three male and female students in addition to one male and one female teacher according to connell talking the female teachers into the competition has been a problem for some schools a handful of sdss students and teachers are currently training with the hopes of making the final eight team trials are scheduled for may 27 the fitness challenge consists of four events twomile run ropeclimb for speed twominute straddle jumps and twominute situps as for an early favorite connell says its hard to pinpoint a frontrunner be cause the competition has never been held before- although
