cobourg tied it up leaving nathan brown from cara manico and whitebread to put the clippers back in the lead however three more cobourg goals sunk the clip pers without trace bantams qualify for second round playoffs what makes a ten the answer is easy the ed wardsmurphy bantam clippers at least it would seem that way so far the victorious bantams have won nine of their ten first playoff series rounding out the week with two more wins this time ajax were poleaxed 94 and markham disposed of 53 so win num ber ten should not be too dif ficult for this hardworking squad and regardless of the outcome in their final game against markham next monday they are assured of a spot in the second round of the series in owen sound next weekend kent smythe and danny larmer were the big guns against ajax both fired three apiece while mike ferguson darryl ham and kevin francis contributed singles rod parham and francis led on the assists with four each others com ing from smythe jason director george schlukbier the fact that the arena com plex has run a little behind time six weeks behind will have no bearing on the un official opening date on june 1 george has been in formed by the contractors that all equipment will be opcrational by april 31 and he is confident that the deadline will be met an official date for the opening has not yet been de cided upon but he has been asked by mayor wood to contact wintnrin in rv anrl arrange a draw some time in september there may indeed be two openings the other being when the ice goes in as far as future functions are concerned the director has already made overtures to a number of business organizations inviting them to bring their trade shows here he has already landed one account he also sees the complex being used for roller skating and concerts wc must utilize it as much as possible he said r fim1 rnfaincr rtmmi tee has to date raised 165325 plus another 15000 pledged according to the director they are con fident in reaching their target of 200000 by the end of march he would also like to remind people that the cutoff date for buying a family brick 250 is may 1 he also confirmed that the complex is running with in its 23 million budget the director is obviously keen to complete as much work as possible before next winter currently he is htlrtfn infrtpmal hicoiic- sions with a view to having the barlounge completely finished by the time the complex opens the con tract only calls for roughing in hopefully sodding of the soccer fields and some land scaping will be completed before the end of the year it is essential that the soccer fields be ready otherwise they will be out of use until 1987 which would be an im possible situation for a soc cer club that is already short of playing space aninifnf it has yet to be decided as to who- will pay for the out side running track sche duled for the perimeter of the soccer field but there is a possibility that costs would come out of the york region board budget although the equipment installed can handle the newstyle jetice system using filtered water the director wants to wait and evaluate the old style sys tem before proceeding with plans to put in a costly filtra tion nlnnt as far as the second phase ofthecomplex is concerned director schlukbier is hope ful that it can be started by the end of 1986 he envis ages the next step to include a fitness centre as he so rightly points out thats where the money is adding with a twinkle in his eye did you know that 81 of all american arenas make their money from the bar i didnt but that statement obviously ex plains his hurry to get the hockey schedule this weeks upcoming games at the arena are scheduled as follows wednesday fcb20 peewee selects vs ux bridge 7 to 8 pm juveniles
