and her family live near leaskdale ux bridge township where lm montgom ery resided and wrote many of her most popular stories carolyns grandmother hilda clark is still searching for rare firstedition books to complete the col lection chris shanahan uxbridge twp carolyn clarks collection of the original works of lucy maud montgomery occupies a- special place in the bedroom of her family resi dence the 11y earolds keen interest in the famous writer is linked to her family past carolyns grandfather harold clark attended church and sunday school with lm montgomery during the period she lived in the leaskdale area carolyn the daughter of gayle and john clark rr 2 uxbridge is extremely proud of her 23book collection it contains 19 original first editions including the watchman and other poems one of only 200 copies ever issued she also has a registered collector plate depicting a scene from the classic story anne of green gables lucy maud montgomery moved to the area in 1911 and resided there until 1923 she was married to rev ewan macdonald the montgomery home is now preserved as a historical landmark carolyns grandmother hilda clark has helped track down many of the original works hilda obtained most of the editions from st pauls anglican marks 150th uxbridge st pauls anglican church is marking its 150th anniversary in uxbridge during 1984 celebrations have been going on since when the present building was constructed in 1888 the cas kets were disinterred and were moved along with the headstones to the present cemetery architecture has a prominent place in st pauls historic past richard cunningham windeyer designed the uxbridge structure as well as several other churches in the diocese the construction contract was given to michael vicars a local builder and craftsman financial harship plagued the congrega tion in those early days as it did most chur ches in communities of comparable size wages and salaries were low and there was little ready money some parishioners who experienced and understoood the early struggle made be quests to the church this generosity helped ensure a brighter future remembrances of the sesquicentennial include the written
