wednesdays at 630 pm and games will be played on the main diamond awards night for amateur league stouffvilles amateur hockey league held its big gest dinner and awards ban quet ever on saturday night this years event held at fernandos restaurant banqueting hall in mar- kham saw close to 230 peo ple in attendance master of ceremonies for the occasion was past- president steve upton while outgoing club presi dent ken smurthwaite in troduced the sponsors and winning teams for the 1983- 84 season in his address to the league president ken smurthwaite emphasized the success of stouffvilles biggest selfsupporting sports organization and con gratulated this years execu tive on doing an excellent job he also made an obli que reference to the com petitive atmosphere of the league reminding players that they should keep the fun in the game and it will last forever the audience reserved their biggest applause for winners of the individual awards confirming the clubs high reputation for good sportsmanship the h o t ly contested top scorer trophy went to wayne jackson of betz pools wayne collected an impressive 58 points in 22 games runnersup were john blair 45 points and mike jones 42 points both are previous winners of the award top goalie was dave par rott of the monte cristo kings his fine perform ance of only 208 goals against helped make the kings this years league winners gary williams of village pools jets runner up to parrott for top goalie 231 goals against proved a very popular winner of the playoffs mvp award de spite the fact that president ken smurthwaite referred the jets as rangers when presenting the a ward a slip of the tongue that prompted a few choice re marks that could not poss ibly be repeated here a special cheer was re served for the stouffville referees association award presented annually to the player who best observes the spirit of good sportsmanship and gentle manly behavior on the ice the award was made to sponsorplayer grant lar- mer by chief referee wayne nugent it was obviously a very popular choice the sponsors some of whom have backed the league from its inception came in for wellearned praise most were in
