gables manor blooming- ton mr bunker had been a resident there almost two years he was 91 bom in pickering twp he was one of ten children in the family of frederick and elizabeth bunker for close to 60 years he farmed on the 9th cone of mar kham he and his late brothers pro duced excellent crops their farm residence was a country beauty spot mr bunker loved horses he spent hours grooming them mainly for his own enjoyment he was a member of the oddfellows lodge and served overseas during world war i harvey bunker was a good friend and neighbor al ways willing to lend a helping hand he dedication cere mony sunday following the morn ing worship the churchs lower au ditorium was designated morris hall in attendance were two for mer pastors rev fred cromey left now of guelph and rev don mckillican of barrie jim thomas churchs thanks stouffville william bill morris long regarded as the savior of st james pre sbyterian church was honored at a cere mony following the worship service sunday morning sherry morris unveiled a plaque recogniz ing the many contributions of the morris family to the life and growth of st james since 1922 the churchs sunday school room has been named morris hall in addition to granddaughter sherry other family members in attendance includedson clifton of uxbridge daughter carole novak of wheaton illinois and grandchildren michael and jennifer jean davidson the churchs historian and member of the board of managers cited the contributions of bill morris through the years including that of elder board chairman ses sion clerk roll clerk and trustee it was through the efforts of mr morris and mem bers of the morris family that the church re mained open she said mr morris was pre sented with a citation of appreciation in attendance at the dedication ceremony were two former pastors rev don mckilli can of barrie and rev fred cromey of guelph rev mckillican recalled the year of 1948 when he accepted the pastorate of st andrews presbyterian church markham and st james stouffville initially he said services at st james were held downstairs an area heated by a potbellied stove that smoked continuously and a wood floor that shifted up and down with the flow of water under the foundation the congregation consisted of only eight or nine people he said there were three chil dren in the sunday school clifton and carole morris and glen ross thompson bill morris he concluded had a vision of the future rev cromey spoke of the spirit of co operation that has prevailed within the con gregation of st james he referred to the construction of a debtfree manse as a little miracle a project he said made possible through foresight and planning he also praised the membership for com pletion of a new church addition in 1983
